Biography

Courtland Pickens is a distinguished vocalist, revered music educator, and visionary executive director based in Minneapolis, MN. Renowned for his extraordinary vocal prowess, Courtland's musical journey began with his debut in 2005, lending his voice to the praise and worship team at his church.

Throughout his illustrious career, Courtland's creative genius led him to compose music for notable gospel recording artists like Jamar Esaw & Triad For Christ and become a lead vocalist for the Dove and Stellar award-nominated gospel group, Darnell Davis & The Remnant. His performances, including a feature on the nationally-televised show Bobby Jones Gospel, have taken him across the nation, showcasing his extraordinary gift.

A versatile artist, Courtland has collaborated on diverse musical projects transcending genres, gaining recognition for his unparalleled vocal talent. Notably, in 2016, he achieved distinction by placing within the top 150 contestants out of over 10,000 individuals in auditions for The Voice.

An accomplished musician, Courtland debuted his EP, "The Manifested Promise," in June 2017. Inspired by Hebrews 6:15, the EP encapsulates Courtland's transformative journey toward fulfillment. His single, "Trust In You," released in May 2020, further demonstrates his dedication to delivering spiritually uplifting and soul-stirring music, available on all digital platforms.

Professionally, Courtland serves as the Worship Director at Epiphany Covenant Church and holds the role of youth choir director at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, where he infuses his leadership with a passion for nurturing musical talents within the community.

In the realm of education, Courtland's impact extends as an educator at Patrick Henry High School, where he directs the Concert Choir, and Minnehaha Academy, teaching gospel choir. Additionally, he serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Minnesota - Mankato, imparting his expertise to aspiring musicians.

As the visionary founder and Creative Director of Known MPLS, an audition-based community gospel youth choir under the umbrella of Voicez, Inc., Courtland spearheads a transformative music education program. This initiative is committed to empowering youths aged 12-25 as catalysts for change, promoting self-esteem, leadership skills, cultural awareness, discipline, and excellence.

Under his guidance, Known MPLS has shared prestigious stages with renowned artists, gracing venues such as The Ordway Theater, The Armory, and performances alongside luminaries like Fred Hammond, Hezekiah Walker, Israel Houghton, and Shane & Shane for national live broadcasts.

Courtland's mission resonates profoundly: "It is very important to me that we train the next generation of singers and songwriters. Music can be very uplifting, a stress reliever, can bring peace, and also bring a community together! Gospel music heals, and it is my hope that through my music, our community can be healed. I hope to empower youth to follow their dreams by teaching them how to find their voice."
